Spotlight: Whoopi Goldberg

This week's #lexicmind on the spotlight is Whoopi Goldberg. Born in 1955, she is an American actress, comedian, and TV personality— a force within the entertainment world!

🏆 Great Achievements:

  • Whoopi is one of the few people to have an EGOT. ALL four prestigious awards—Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony!

  • Let's not forget her iconic roles in cinema classics like "The Color Purple," "Ghost," and "Sister Act." Who else could bring those characters to life quite like her?

💡 Dyslexia as a Brilliant Advantage:

“I’m dyslexic, so there weren't a whole lot of books in my early life. But I did love stories.”

Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg’s ability to think visually (a dyslexic quality) helped her take her acting skills to the next level.

The unique mind of Whoopi Goldberg, with dyslexia and dyscalculia, has made her a distinctive star.

Tools and Tips

Speechify

We put Speechify to the test, and the results are in. This app promises to make reading easier by converting text to audio, but does it deliver? Here’s what we found:

Pros

  • Read quicker! Turn text into audio, and go through long books quickly.

  • Versatile Formats: Reads scanned pages, web links, and files from your devices.

  • Natural Voices: Premium voices sound like real people, enhancing the listening experience.

Cons

  • High Fee: $139.00 annual fee. Also, no free trial without a credit card.

  • Scanning Issues: Curved pages and imperfect scans cause reading errors.

  • Dark Mode Flaw: Pasted text in dark mode stays black, making it hard to see.
