IKEA’s Founder, Dyslexia and ADHD

Many of us have recurred to IKEA to find innovative easy-to-assemble furniture for our homes, student rooms, or office. But, did you ever wonder why IKEA offers such product solutions? Or why does it have such unique names in Swedish?

It is no surprise that Ingvar Kamprad is a fellow dyslexic. When he first started IKEA, it was a mail-order business, and identifying the product numbers was problematic for Kamprad due to his dyslexia. He did not give up. He created a naming system that is iconic and often goes viral online, for example, garden furniture is named after Swedish islands.

Kamprad’s Success

  • IKEA has produced more than 44.6 billion euros in retail sales.

  • The company has more than 230,000 employees around the world.

  • Only last year, they opened 38 new locations worldwide.

Ingvar Kamprad is not only an example of entrepreneurial success from the dyslexic and ADHD community, but also how taking your struggles and turning them into opportunities will not only change your life but the world!
